Objective: Fever is a common symptom in children and is managed by the mother at home before hospital. Knowledge and practice of the care of children with fever, especially the management of seizures caused by high fever is very important. This research aims to describe the patterns and some factors related to the practice of infant care of mothers of children under 6 years of age in out_patient_clinic – National Children’s Hospital in 2017.
Methods: Analytical description of cross sectional analysis, 423 mothers with children under 6 years of age with fever, examination in out_patient_clinic – National Children’s Hospital.
Results: There are 423 mothers, 52.7% had good knowledge (≥ 70% of the total knowledge score), 10.9% had good practice. Factors related to infant care practice of mothers include: age (the mothers are under 30 years old had better practice than the others), education, geography (the mothers who live in the city had better practice than the other groups), the knowledge of infant care (the knowledge and practice point is a positive correlation, when the knowledge point increases by 1 unit, the practice point increases by 1.2 units); mothers who their children had high fever (> 390C) had a better practice than the other).
Conclusions: Knowledge, practice of care and management of infants is still limited. Therefore, health care workers need to spend more time, apply different methods of counseling and counseling for health care and counseling. Infant fever is effective for mothers.
