ABSTRACT
Introduction: The global COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in numerous health complications. Among the neurological complications, there have been reports of autoimmune encephalitis with anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor antibodies (anti-NMDAR encephalitis) following SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Objectives: We present a clinical case of anti-NMDAR encephalitis following SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Case presentations: A 14-year-old previously healthy female patient, infected with SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) one month prior, developed symptoms of memory impairment, psychiatric disturbances, and seizures approximately one week after the COVID-19 infection. The patient showed improvement with immune-suppressive therapy, including high-dose glucocorticoids and plasmapheresis.
Conclusion: This case report highlights the potential association between SARS-CoV-2 infection and the development of anti-NMDAR encephalitis. Healthcare professionals should be aware of the possibility of autoimmune encephalitis as a neurological complication following COVID-19.
